A Waiting Room of Opportunity

Medical exposure not only enhances your medical school application but also provides invaluable real-world insight, better preparing you for both medical school and a future career in medicine. However, securing opportunities for shadowing and volunteering—essential entry points into the field—has become increasingly challenging. This barrier is particularly pronounced for first-generation college students and those from underrepresented backgrounds.

Our Mission
Connecting Shadows expands access to medical shadowing and volunteering for undergraduate students —especially those with limited resources or professional networks— to build a more inclusive and knowledgeable future healthcare workforce.

Ricardo Ramos started his premed journey at Georgia Tech full of determination—but quickly realized how hard it was to break into the world of medicine without personal connections or guidance. Finding shadowing and volunteer opportunities felt like navigating a closed system.
Through persistence and networking, he eventually gained access to clinics and hospitals—but knew it shouldn't be that hard. In his senior year, he teamed up with fellow student and coder Vincent Zhu to launch Connecting Shadows, a platform built to open the very doors Ricardo once struggled to find—so that future students wouldn't have to go it alone.
